Hi everyone! I have just watched this film and I already recommend this to my close friends. I have been eager to watch it a few months ago (well, because I see Julia Roberts in the screenplay) but I always forgot to download this film when I have the time. And, because of my internet quota is still full and the due date is near, I finally got to download it. So, what is this film about?
Based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the incredibly
inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman, a boy with facial
differences (Treacher Collins Syndrome) who enters 5th grade, attending a mainstream elementary
school for the first time.

For those who haven't watch this yet, you might be wondering what is Treacher Collins Syndrome? So I decided to do some favor and search for it (because I was curious about it either) and this is what I found from Wikipedia.
Treacher Collins syndrome (TCS) is a genetic disorder characterized by deformities of the ears, eyes, cheekbones, and chin. The degree to which a person is affected, however, may vary from mild to severe. Complications may include breathing problems, problems seeing, cleft palate, and hearing loss.
So, it is not happened to everybody but it happens to some. Unfortunately, it happens to Auggie, the main character of this film. I don't know how it feels to be an Auggie in real life because I don't have that syndrome and I am grateful that I don't have it but by watching this film, I can feel the feeling that Auggie had. People stares at him everywhere he goes because of his face. Babies cried when they see him. His schoolmates didn't even want to near him, talk to him or touch him. They treat him like he was a plague. As a child, that experience must be very heartbreaking.
This film really taught me a lot of things. It tells me how does it feel to be someone with no ordinary life. I mean, look at Auggie. He is just a 10 year old kid with different face. And because of that,he was having a difficulty blending in, whereas his parents, especially his mother (played by Julia Roberts) were having a difficulty in making their son acceptable in the society. This is so heartbreaking. But what I love from this film is how they potrait the love of this family. There was a scene where Auggie agrees to go to the private school so that he could have a better science teacher besides his mother. His mother then pretended to get offended and along with his father and sister, they tickle him. This scene, warms my heart. It shows that despite how Auggie face is, he has a loving and caring family.
I also love the character of this film. Number 1 is Auggie's mother, Isabel. When she gave birth to Auggie, she was in the process of finishing her thesis, just one step away but because of Auggie condition, she stopped it and just focus on her son. She gives up her dream to be child's book illustrator for Auggie. I know many mothers in this world is ready to do anything for their children and Isabel is one of them. It must be hard having Auggie but she didn't give up on him, not a single bit. She is a strong woman and she taught it to her children.
Number 2 is Auggie's older sister, Via. She is the one who ask for a brother when she turns 4. She is also the most understanding sister that I ever seen. Auggie has always been a center of her parents attention. She even describes that her brother is the sun and she and her parents are the planets orbiting the sun. I love how she loves her parents and her brother. It can be seen clearly in the Halloween day. She was supposed to have a quality time with her mother (which is rare for her) but was disturbed by Auggie. Turns out that Auggie was feeling betrayed of something. (I won't give any spoiler, go and watch the film if you really wanna know.) So, instead of being mad at Auggie, she patiently listens to him and decide to make him feel better. There was also a scene where Auggie went to school for the first day. As you can expect, the first day didn't go well for Auggie, he feels sad and mad at his mother for enrolling him to private school. So yeah, he throws tantrum ended up with the parents giving all their attention to Auggie again. Where as Via, who is going to school for new school year, is also having a bad day because of her best friend didn't want to talk to her for some unknown reasons. Her parents didn't even get the chance of asking her day because of Auggie's tantrums. But she didn't go mad, instead she smiles looking at the trio and go to her room.
Number 3 is Jack Will and Summer. They are just kids but I learn that sometimes kids can be wise too. Jack did something wrong to Auggie, he realizes it and apologies to him. He knows he is wrong and he fixes his mistakes where sometimes us adults, know that we are wrong but we have an ego too big to apologize. And Summer, she is wise enough to know that Auggie is not a plague like what rumors said in their school and befriending him.
Number 4 is Mr Tushman, the headmaster. There was a scene where Jullian constantly bulling Auggie, he and his friends leave hurtful note on Auggie's desk, chair and tape a picture where Auggie was photoshopped to his locker with a notes asking Auggie to do everyone a favor and die, a note that was too much if I may say. Later her parents was called to meet Mr Tushman. I could say that I hate his mother here. I mean you know that thing was wrong to do but you still defend your child. It is something parents should avoid to do, if your children do something wrong, tell them not defend them. They will see that what they do is right and they will do something worse in the future.
But Mr Tushman here, is a wise old man. He was threatened by Jullian's parents about funding but he remains firm in his stance. What I love from the scene is when he said "Auggie can't change how he looks. Maybe we should change how we see"
I also found so many quotes here that was so inspiring. I will share it in another post so make sure to check it out. I cried a lot watching this film, seriously, this films is touching, right to my heart.
